What is Zoning? How Can it Benefit You?

Zoning is a precise way to heat and cool your Atlanta home. The biggest benefit of zoning is that it gives you total control over the temperatures in every area of your house. You can have HVAC zoning with ducted or ductless systems. Ductless systems heat and cool zones with multiple indoor units. Ducted systems heat and cool zones by controlling the damper in each zone’s air duct. Every zone has its own thermostat. When the desired temperature is achieved in a ducted system’s zone, the damper closes to stop the delivery of treated air. When the desired temperature is reached in a ductless system’s zone, the unit either stops delivering treated air or maintains the desired temperature by reducing heating or cooling output. Here are three additional benefits you’ll enjoy with zoning:

1. Energy-Efficient Heating and Cooling

Zoning delivers heated or cooled air only where it’s needed and nowhere else. This increases energy efficiency and decreases energy bills. If you add programmable thermostats to your zoned system, you can save on utility bills even more. When used correctly, energy efficiency with a zoned system can be almost 30 percent higher than in a single-thermostat home.

2. Customized Indoor Comfort

Zoning allows you to be comfortable in your home regardless of where you are. Because each zone has its own thermostat, you can have a warm kitchen and a cool bedroom at the same time, and energy is no longer wasted. Cold spots, drafty areas, and hot spots become a thing of the past.

3. Less Equipment Wear and Tear

Because your HVAC system isn’t heating and cooling an entire house, its workload is lighter. That reduces the incidence of repairs and saves money on repair bills. Reduced wear and tear also preserves the integrity of your equipment, so it has a longer lifespan.
